DAF is my acronym for:
Desire. Attention. Fidelity. Three ingredients necessary to find and live God in all things. But outside it's use as an acronym, 'DAF' is very near to the terms "daft" and "daffy", which call up "foolish, crazy". As in "Are you daff?!"
To believe that any and all physical matter contain and reveal the matter of divine and eternal presence seems more and more an oddity to some 21st century cultural streams. To live one's life based on a belief that God exists and that this God is a God of self-emptying love--revealed in often the most ordinary ways--presents a conundrum to what seems an ever growing number of humans.
Increasingly, the beliefs I carry inspire a polite perplexion from loved ones and acquaintances. These people are no less special to me because of this. Why? Because every one of them uniquely incarnates--gives flesh to--the living God! They may not share this belief about themselves, but that makes it no less true for me.
So call me--or anyone who dedicates his/her existence to the search and discovery of God in the contours of daily life--call us daft. Foolish. Crazy, even. And all the while, may our desire for God only grow. May our attention to divine presence only deepen. And may our fidelity to this holy journey only expand.
