A Parish Finance Committee is similar to parish pastoral councils in that they are consultative in nature, offering advice to the pastor.  Finance committees must observe both church and civil law in sound management of the temporal goods of the parish.  Finance committees must annually inventory parish resources and holdings, and review such areas as maintenance of the possessions and insurance limits.

The annual budget process should begin with the finance committee receiving and studying budget requests and compiling the overall parish budget.  Next, the parish pastoral council reviews the budget in light of parish goals and priorities.  The pastor then approves the final budget.

The finance committee contributes significantly to the implementation of the annual budget.  It monitors revenues and parish assets, reviews expenses and payments to ensure budget compliance.  The finance committee oversees parish investments in accord with Archdiocesan norms.

What percentage does God ask of me as a good Steward?  All of my heart, all of my mind, and all of my strength!  As we pray today for an increase of spiritual gifts we are reminded by the bishops' pastoral on stewardship that good stewardship of the Church "means cherishing and fostering the gifts of all, while using one's own gifts to serve the community of faith."
